Posted on February, 22, 2017 by admin
When people think about “therapy”, they often picture a man or woman laying on a couch and talking to a doctor who listens and adds appropriate interjections as needed. To these folks, the idea of extending the concept into “speech therapy” isn’t one that computes. If you’ve been wondering what speech therapy is and who would benefit from it, then you’ll definitely want to keep reading.
What is Speech Therapy?
By most definitions, speech therapy (also referred to as speech and language therapy) is a comprehensive therapeutic approach designed to aid individuals who have a hard time communicating. Besides the assistance with pronunciation and general speech, speech therapy also offers care to those who have difficulties with swallowing, drinking, or eating.
Who Should Use Speech Therapy?
Given the description, stroke sufferers and young children with speaking difficulties are some of the first potential patients that come to mind. However, speech therapy isn’t just for them. Speech therapy services can be used to treat a number of conditions and individuals.
A few of these would include:
• Individuals who are non-neurotypical

Managing Your Time As An CNA
Posted on November, 15, 2016 by admin
As a State Tested Nursing Assistant, your time is always at a premium. You’ll be working a high-stress job that most people can’t handle, and you’ll probably be working during hours that would drive others crazy. While the job can be fantastically rewarding, there’s a reason so many people burn out – they just don’t know how to take care of themselves. The secret to being a great CNA is simple – you’ll need to learn how to manage your time and your body. Fortunately, the tips below can help you to do both in a manner that will benefit your career as well as your health.
Staying Healthy Matters
It’s strange, but many in health-related professionals aren’t great at taking care of themselves. Before you can care for a patient, you must first learn to take care of yourself. For most CNAs, this means making the hard choice not to work when they are sick. For others, it means taking the time to go to the doctor, work out, and eat healthy. If you can work towards your own wellness, you can better look out for that of your patients.
Remember the Little Things
While there’s quite a bit on your plate as an CNA, you still need to take some time to do the little things. Make sure to take a night every once in a while and just be yourself – do something you love. Remember to stretch before you go to work, to make small talk with your coworkers and to simply be human whenever you get the chance. All of this will help you to be happier, healthier, and better at being an CNA.
Put Your Foot Down
It’s important to know when to say no as an CNA. It doesn’t matter how many timesavers you use or how good you get at managing time, you still won’t be able to do everything. Look at your contract of employment and only do that at work which is part of your job description. If you can set the right tone for what you will or will not do on the job, you’ll be able to spend more time concentrating on being the best CNA possible.
Learn How to Manage Your Time
One of the most important things you can do is to learn how to manage your time efficiently. During the early days of your employment, pay attention to the processes that impact your job. Is there a way you can do two or more things safely at one time? Can you do paperwork during your lunch break, or deal with personal issues during your commute? Anything that allows you to save a bit of time will give you more time to rest, relax, and get better at your job.
While there are many great tips to being efficient out there, the best is to simply take care of yourself as well as you would a patient. With better mental and physical health comes the ability to be more efficient and be better at your job. Make your first patient yourself and you’ll be pleased with the results.
Becoming an CNA is not difficult if you have a good work ethic, enjoy working with people, and are committed to giving your all during your training program. You will learn both the information and skills you need to succeed as an CNA if you pay attention and apply everything you’ve learned. Good luck!

How To Become An CNA
Posted on April, 11, 2016 by admin
If you’re looking for a flexible and rewarding career, you might want to consider becoming an CNA. As a State Tested Nursing Assistant, you will work under the instruction of a nurse or doctor to provide basic care to patients and help enrich their daily lives. CNA’s have the ability to work in a variety of settings ranging from hospitals to patient homes. To get started on your career path in the medical field, you can follow these steps to become an CNA in Ohio.
- Find a training program that has been approved by the Ohio Department of Health. Since all CNA training programs are under the jurisdiction of the Ohio Department of Health, it is important to make sure the program you choose has been approved before you begin taking classes. You don’t want to waste your time or money on a program that won’t count towards your state mandated requirements.
- Ask for information about the program, such as class schedule(s), tuition and fees, and start dates. Gather as much information as possible so that you can compare your options side by side.
- Decide which program is a good fit for your life and your schedule. Most programs offer day, evening and weekend classes to choose from. Make sure you choose what best fits your goals, lifestyle, and budget.
- Fill out the application and follow any other steps to enroll in the program such as getting a TB test.
- Complete the training hours required for both classroom and clinical training, which will total 75 hours. Make sure you attend all classes, pay attention, and take good notes to reference when it comes time to study for your exam.
- After you complete all of your CNA training, you can sign up to take the Ohio CNA certification exam. The exam will consist of 79 multiple choice questions and will also require a skills test to demonstrate your clinical skills.
- Take the exam. With the training you received during your program, you should have all the information you need to successfully pass your test. Once you’ve passed, you will officially be licensed as an CNA in that state of Ohio!

Bright Future Projected for Ohio CNAs
Posted on August, 19, 2013 by admin
Nothing is certain in today’s economy, but for those pursuing CNA jobs, the future is bright. There has been a well-documented shortage of qualified candidates for open nursing and nursing assistant jobs for quite some time. The disproportionate number of open CNA jobs to qualified candidates can be attributed to several factors including a booming elderly population. As more and more nursing-home and long-term-care facilities open to accommodate the growing elderly population, an increasing number of CNA jobs will become available. Since the current number of open CNA jobs outnumbers the number of qualified candidates, those who are qualified will have a relatively easy time finding jobs and keeping them. CNA employment is expected to grow by 20% over the next decade, well above the overall expected employment growth rate.
Another factor that promises to increase the demand for CNAs is the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA). Signed into law in early 2010, PPACA completely overhauls the current United States healthcare system. It will require every American to purchase health insurance over the next few years and will force all businesses within the healthcare industry to reexamine their current business practices to make sure that they conform to the new law. It is hard to predict exactly what the law will mean for CNAs, but at a very high level it will increase the number of patients in the system which will increase the amount of required CNAs at healthcare facilities across the nation.
The median salary for CNAs, orderlies, and attendants in today’s market is $24,760. This is below the overall median for all occupations, but is expected to grow faster than the national rate because of the projected job surplus alluded to earlier. CNAs must be certified and often move on to higher paying jobs very quickly in their career. They learn a great deal in their training and while on the job which makes them ideal candidates for more advanced positions.
The first step for prospective CNAs is to become certified by passing the State Board Exam for Nursing Aides. Premier Choice Health Services (PCHS) offers CNA training in Columbus, Ohio. We help our students develop the skills and knowledge base that they need to pass their boards and qualify for the CNA jobs that they want. Our program has a 98% pass rate and offers students a variety of different payment plans. If you are interested in becoming a certified CNA in the state of Ohio, contact Premier Choice Health Services today to get started. If you are a certified CNA seeking employment, browse current openings on PCHS’s CNA employment page. We have partnered with several reputable healthcare providers in Columbus and other Ohio markets to provide a large list of current openings.
